As seen on the runways, doses of icy pink or shimmery bronze are universally flattering ways to face spring. New York makeup artist Victor Joseph explains how to copy these easy looks.
How to become Pretty and Pink
Skin Substitute an illuminating cream for foundation and apply a light layer all over your face (try Elizabeth Arden Shimmering Face Lotion or Clinique Zero Base Sheer Colour in Platinum).
Cheeks Highlight your cheeks and brow bones with a pale pink blush stick applied with your index finger (try Prescriptives Mystick in Woman, below left, or Ultima II Nourishing Blush Stick in Pink Glow) or a translucent pink powder swept on with a blush brush (try Bare Escentuals loose mineral makeup in Blush, below left, or Merle Norman Duskglo Highlighting Powder in Moondust).
Eyes Swipe a shimmery shade (try Max Factor Eye Shadow in Bombshell Blue, below left, or Trucco Aura Eye Colour in Halo, also below) across the lid; forgo eyeliner and brush on one coat of off-black mascara.
Lips Get sheer shine by dabbing on a pinky lipstick with your finger (try Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Coralshine, left, or Max Factor Lasting Color Lipstick in Leading Lady Pink). Then apply a layer of gloss (try Stila Lip Gloss in Petal Shine, above left, or Cover Girl Lip Slicks Lip Gloss in Hint of Pink Shimmer).
Nails Opt for polish that’s almost clear–with just the slightest hint of pink, blue, or purple (like a hologram). (Try Creative Nail Design Nail Color in Secrets, left, or Orly Salon Nails Nail Color in Deja Vu.)
Bronze and Sheer
Skin Skimp on foundation (use only where you absolutely need it or skip altogether), then apply a glimmery cream where the sun usually tans your face–your nose, temples, cheekbones, and forehead. (Try agnes b. L’Embellisseur Abricot, right, or Ultima II Glowtion).
Cheeks A light dusting of bronzing powder on each apple adds warmth (try Jacques Dessange Bronzing Powder in Ambree, right, or Circle of Beauty Sun Pretender Powder in Sunlight).
Eyes To keep the look natural, opt for only one brownish shadow and apply with your fingertip from lashes to just below the brow bone (try Merle Norman Luxiva Lasting Eyecolor in Auburn, above right, or J.C. Penney Professionals Eyeshadow in Meteor). Then dip a wet eyeliner brush in the same shadow, line just below your bottom lashes, and finish off with a coat of brown mascara.
Lips Skip the liner and apply a warm lipstick shade–then top with a bronzy gloss (try Christian Dior Diorever Long Wearing Lipstick #912 with BeneFit Frankie’s Girl Gloss, both above right, or Naturistics Longer Wear Lipcolor in Island Coral Creme topped with Cover Girl Continuous Color Self-Renewing Lipstick in Sun Kissed).
Nails Reach for coral or copper hues (try Avon Color Last Nail Enamel in Blossom, above right, or Trish McEvoy Nail Color in Collins Avenue).
